The First Rolex GMT Master from 1955
This is a stunning photo of a very-rare, all-original, Pepsi Rolex GMT Master from 1955, and it appears courtesy of John Goldberger. Rolex first began selling the GMT Master in 1955 and as you see in the image below, the watch has no crown guards, and it has a transparent bakelite bezel insert which used. It is fascinating to note the numbers and markers on the bezel insert also glowed in the dark by using Strontium 90.
The inside of the case back is pictured below. Of course, we see the Reference Number 6542, but notice that underneath is says "IV.55", which means the watch case was made in the fourth quarter of 1955.
