I have been working on creating another blog named Jake's Music World and I recently posted a few videos of 1970s recording legend, Jim Croce. Unfortunately Croce passed away when he was only 30 years old in 1973. He died in a plane crash. The photo below shows Jim Croce wearing his Rolex Submariner on the cover of his first Album which was published in 1966 and it was named Facets. 

I thought is would be on-point to post this story now, because his Submariner is almost identical to the one in the Rolex Submariner ad I posted yesterday.

The story behind Jim Croce's first album, named Facets, is fascinating. Jim Croce's financed the first 500 copies pressed with a $500 wedding gift from his parents. Croce's parents gift was conditional and they insisted that if he accepted the gift he has to spend it on making a album. Ironically his parents thought the album would fail and Jim wold then give up on his music career, and go to college so he could then get a respectable job. Obviously, things did not work out the way they expected, and Jim Croce went on to become an international recording superstar.

The Greatest Blues Guitarist In History

B.B. King is the greatest blues guitarist in history and he just celebrated his 87th birthday and he is still going strong!!! B.B. King is pictured below with his trademark guitar named Lucille by his side, with his trademark yellow gold Rolex President on his wrist. It's interesting to note B.B. King has always worn his Rolex Day-Date in reverse, like the King of race car driving, Richard Petty, who wears his Daytona flipped around.

B.B. King's watch almost looks like a bracelet from the front and his ring looks like a Rolex President bracelet style ring. Also, Peter who is a reader of Jake's Rolex Watch Blog pointed out (in the comments section) that B.B. King's guitar has two coronets on it that look very similar to the Rolex coronet/crown/logo. This could explain why B.B. King wears his Rolex Day-Date with the coronet where the watch usually goes!!!

Both Cher and Gregg Allman have had unbelievable careers that spanned 5 decades. Cher started her career with her first husband, Sonny Bono and later she married Gregg Allman who is a member of the Allman Brothers and has also had a successful solo career.

Cher and Gregg Allman have both worn Rolex watches though their entire careers. In the this first set of photos below, we see Cher wearing her Rolex Lady Date, and Gregg Allman wearing his stainless steel Rolex Submariner.

The next three photos in this article were taken by Michael Ochs in Los Angeles, California in 1977. They were taken at a party at Rona Barrett's home.

Cher must dig dudes who wear Rolex GMT's because her first husband Sonny Bono and her second husband Gregg Allman both wore them. Even Cher's daughter/Son Chaz wears one. Here is a photo of Gregg Allman after he and Cher broke up, and notice he is wearing a Rolex GMT on a Jubilee Bracelet.

Crosby, Stills & Nash is one of the most popular folk rock supergroups of all time, and as we will soon see, they have been wearing Rolex Submariner watches for four decades. They are pictured below in this first photo in 1969 just before they played Woodstock, and Stephen Stills (center) is wearing his trademark Rolex Submariner which you will see better later in this story.

Crosby, Stills and Nash are best known for their trademark sound which fuses magnificent vocal harmonies with amazing lyrics. All three band members have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and their music literally defended an era.

Crosby, Stills and Nash blew everybody's mind when they performed live at Woodstock in 1969, and their version of Judy Blue Eyes is just amazing!!!! As a matter of fact, Woodstock 1969 was the first time they ever performed together as a band.

Notice Stephen Stills sporting his trademark Rolex Submariner while giving this seminal performance at Woodstock in 1969!!!!. This is one of the best songs of all time!!!!

An interesting point is that in Judy Blue Eyes, Crosby, Stills and Nash sing the last chorus in Spanish, and they sing:

Que linda me la traiga Cuba,

La reina de la Mar Caribe.

Cielo sol no tiene sangre alli,

y que triste que no puedo vaya,

Oh va, oh va, va.

Translated from Spanish to English they are singing:

"Oh, what beauty Cuba brings me,

The queen of the Caribbean Sea,

Sunny Sky has no blood over there,

And how sad that I cannot go,

Oh go, oh go, go."

The band members from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young came from 1960s rock bands, The Byrds, The Hollies and Buffalo Springfield. They introduced their first album in 1969 to critical acclaim.

George Benson is one of the greatest Jazz Guitarists in history, and he is considered by many to be one of the great pioneers of Smooth Jazz.

If you visit Rolex.com you will see they have many ambassadors from different sports, like golf, tennis and sailing. They even have an Arts section which includes opera stars and ballet dancers, and I think it is about time they add some legendary guitarists, and I can't think of anybody better that George Benson. George Benson is pictured below wearing his two-tone Rolex Daytona.

George is pictured below, in 2011, wearing his yellow gold Rolex Submariner with the blue dial and bezel.

George Benson is best known for his amazing smooth jazz and I included a bunch of videos below. George is truly Superlative...

This first video of George Benson performing his mega-hit, Masquerade was performed back in 1976, and it was just one of the amazing songs on his seminal Smooth Jazz album, titled Breezin' which was released in 1976, and went triple-platinum. As a matter of fact, Breezin' was the first Jazz album in history to go platinum!

This last video of George Benson was recently shot in 2012, and you can see him wearing his Rolex Submariner. What a fascinating and brilliant musician!!!!

This watch was owned by Friedrich Gulda, the Austrian Classical and Jazz musician. Friedrich Gulda is considered to be one of the best pianist of the 20th Century and he was unconventional in many ways. He was born in Austria in 1930 and passed away in 2000.

I have said in the past I believe many Rolex watches are high art, and this Tangerine Dream is no exception. It is so unusual and it reminds me of tangerines and a burst of sunshine. I think it is fascinating.

I would like to thank Stefano Mazzariol for sending is these magnificent photos of his stunning historical watch that once belonged to Friedrich Gulda. Stefano Mazzariol is from Italy and he publishes a superb Rolex Blog which you can visit by clicking here.

Light My Fire

Friedrich Gulda was one of the best pianist that ever lived and in this first video, he plays, Light My Fire (By The Doors) which was one of his favorite songs. Notice he is wearing his yellow gold Rolex Tangerine-Dream Day-Date. Bravo!!!!!!!!!!
